TL;DR

Oldham County had about 12,155 residents 65+ (17.1%) in 2025. Kentucky's OIG roster lists five assisted living licenses (four in La Grange, one in Goshen), three nursing facilities, two adult day programs and no PACE. Baptist Health La Grange is the county's hospital.

What does Oldham County's senior population look like?

Census Bureau estimates for July 1, 2025 put Oldham County at 70,986 residents, about 12,155 of them 65 or older (17.1%) and 999 aged 85 or older. That is the lowest senior share among the seven KIPDA counties, a reflection of the county's growth as a family suburb along I-71 and US 42. It does not mean small numbers: twelve thousand older adults is more than live in Spencer, Henry and Trimble counties combined.

La Grange is the county seat, with Crestwood, Pewee Valley, Goshen, Orchard Grass Hills and River Bluff the other cities. Baptist Health La Grange, a 90-bed acute-care hospital on Kentucky's OIG hospital roster, is the county's hospital.

What licensed senior care is in Oldham County?

OIG's October 2026 directories list the following in Oldham County. Assisted living capacity is modest, and three of the five assisted living licenses are small social-model ALCs.

Two adult day health programs are licensed in La Grange, and five personal services agencies (non-medical home care) list addresses in La Grange or Crestwood.

How do Oldham families compare local options with Louisville's?

Many do. Prospect and the northeastern corner of Jefferson County are a short drive down US 42 or I-71, and that part of Louisville has ten assisted living licenses, all ALC-BH or ALC-DC, plus Norton Brownsboro Hospital near the Gene Snyder. The East End adds fifteen more licenses. A parent who needs medication administration or a secured dementia unit has one combined campus in Oldham County and many more just across the line.

Proximity to the family should come first. If the daughter who visits most lives in Crestwood, a community ten minutes away in Prospect may serve better than one thirty minutes away in La Grange.

What do the CMS ratings show for Oldham's nursing homes?

Of Oldham's three nursing facilities, two have CMS records. In CMS's October 2026 data, The Springs at Oldham Reserve holds a four-star overall rating and Richwood Nursing & Rehab a two-star rating. Friendship Health & Rehab in Pewee Valley holds state-licensed nursing home beds only and has no CMS rating. Our facility pages show each certified home's staffing hours, inspection dates and deficiency counts alongside nearby alternatives.

What public programs reach Oldham County?

Oldham shares the KIPDA Area Agency on Aging with Louisville, so the Aging & Disability Resource Center at (502) 266-5571 handles Meals on Wheels referrals, caregiver support, SHIP Medicare counseling and Medicaid waiver intake. The long-term care ombudsman program is run by Catholic Charities of Louisville. Licensing complaints go to OIG's Northern Branch at 502-595-4958.

PACE is the gap. DMS's list of enrolled PACE organizations, updated December 9, 2024, shows none serving Oldham County, so the HCB waiver, with its waiting list, is the main Medicaid route for care at home.

What about crossing the river?

Oldham County borders the Ohio River, and Indiana is close for families in the northern part of the county. Indiana licenses assisted living under its own laws through the Indiana Department of Health, and none of Kentucky's licenses or programs apply there. A move across the river also means establishing Medicaid eligibility in the new state if Medicaid will be needed.

What does the county's growth mean for future care?

Oldham's population rose from about 67,600 at the April 2020 estimates base to about 71,000 by July 2025, and its 65-and-older population will keep growing as earlier suburban residents age in place. Licensed assisted living capacity has not kept pace in the county itself, which helps explain why so many Oldham families look at Prospect and the East End. When a new license is issued in the county, it will appear on our Oldham County page as soon as OIG lists it.

Where can Oldham families get help sorting options?

KIPDA's Aging & Disability Resource Center at (502) 266-5571 covers Oldham County and can explain in-home services, Meals on Wheels and Medicaid waiver intake at no cost. For licensed options, our Oldham County page lists every facility on OIG's roster with license type, capacity and status, and the CMS figures for the county's certified nursing homes.
