Who pays for senior care in Kentucky?

Most Louisville families pay privately at first; Medicare covers only short skilled stays, home health and hospice, Kentucky Medicaid pays for nursing facility care and, through the HCB waiver and PACE, services at home, State Supplementation helps SSI-level residents of personal care and family care homes, and VA Aid and Attendance helps eligible veterans and survivors.

Kentucky has no Medicaid waiver for assisted living, which is the gap that surprises families most. Plan for it before a parent moves in, not when savings are nearly gone.

Where can Louisville families get free help with benefits?

KIPDA's Aging & Disability Resource Center at (502) 266-5571 handles Medicaid waiver intake and SHIP Medicare counseling for Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, Shelby, Spencer, Henry and Trimble counties at no charge.

Medicaid applications themselves go through kynect or DCBS at (855) 306-8959.
