How much does assisted living cost in Louisville, Kentucky?

Kentucky's 2025 statewide median for a private one-bedroom in an assisted living community is $63,480 a year, about $5,290 a month, according to the CareScout 2025 Cost of Care Survey; CareScout publishes no separate Louisville figure, so local quotes can sit above or below that number.

Care type (Kentucky, 2025)Annual medianAbout per monthChangeU.S. median
Assisted living community (private one-bedroom)$63,480$5,290+8% since 2024$74,400

Adult day health care (5 days/week)$22,880$1,907not reported$24,700

CareScout gathered these rates from providers between July and November 2025 and released them March 2, 2026. Kentucky's assisted living median rose 8% from 2024 but still sits below the national median of $74,400 a year, ranking 40th among states from most to least expensive.

Is there a published cost for memory care in Louisville?

No. CareScout does not survey memory care as its own category, so there is no memory care median for Louisville, for Kentucky, or for any state; any single “average memory care cost” you see online is an estimate.

We will not publish one. What we can say from the licensing side is structural: a Kentucky community providing memory care must hold an ALC-DC license, staff its secured unit only with dementia-trained workers, and meet the training-hour rules in KRS 194A.7205, all of which tend to make memory care cost more than the same community's assisted living apartments. Get the number in writing from each community at your parent's assessed care level.

What does a Louisville-area nursing home cost per month?

Kentucky's 2025 median nursing home cost is $116,618 a year for a semi-private room, about $9,718 a month, and $135,050 a year for a private room, about $11,254 a month; both rose more than 10% from 2024.

Unlike assisted living, Kentucky's nursing home medians sit slightly above the national figures ($114,975 semi-private and $129,575 private). Medicare covers only limited skilled-nursing stays after a qualifying inpatient admission, so long stays are usually private pay until a resident qualifies for Kentucky Medicaid.

How much does in-home care cost in Kentucky?

Non-medical home care in Kentucky has a 2025 median of $74,360 a year for 44 hours a week, which works out to about $32.50 an hour or roughly $6,197 a month at that schedule.

That monthly figure is higher than the assisted living median, which surprises families. The comparison only holds at 44 hours a week, though; a parent who needs four hours a day, five days a week, pays far less. Adult day health care, at a 2025 Kentucky median of $22,880 a year for five days a week (about $88 a day), is the lowest-cost paid option. Our crossover guide walks through the hours at which each option wins.

How do I get an accurate price from a Louisville community?

Ask each community for the all-in monthly cost at your parent's assessed care level, in writing, along with the care-level schedule, the rate-increase history for the last three years, and what triggers the next care level.

Kentucky law helps: the lease must spell out general services and fee structure, specific services and associated fees, how services and fees can be modified, and a minimum 30-day notice before the fee structure changes (KRS 194A.713). Ask whether community fees, second-person fees and medication-management fees are separate line items.
